Tic Tac Baby Quilt Tutorial

Finished quilt size 40"x40"

 Kathleen and Natalia designed this quilt Tic Tac Baby quilt and we are so happy to be able to share it with you.

Materials needed for quilt top.

(Backing and binding are not included.)

1 1/4 yards Authentic Dot to Dot Black material.

1/2 yard Authentic Simple Spot Natural material.

1/4 yard Authentic Simple Spot Sprout material.

1/8 yard Authentic In the News Black material.

1/8 yard Authentic In Bloom Stone material.

1/2 yard Authentic Spot on Natural material.

Coordinating thread & starch.

*Note, all seam allowances are set @ 1/4".

First

From your black dot to dot black material you will cut 5, 2 1/2"x width strips.

Now cut those strips into 6, 2 1/2"x12 1/2" strips.

Second

From the same black material you will now cut 1, 4 1/2" strip.

Now cut that strip into 3, 4 1/2"x4 1/2" squares.

Third

From your Simple Spot Natural material you will cut 3, 2 1/2"x width strips.

From those strips you will cut 6, 2 1/2"x8" strips (above).

You will also cut 6, 2 1/2"x4 1/2" strips.

Fourth

From the dot to dot black material you will cut 6, 12 1/2"x12 1/2" squares.

Fifth

Take one of the 4 1/2" black squares and sew one of the ivory 2 1/2"x 4 1/2" strips to two sides, as shown in the image above. (Repeat this until you have three of these.)

Sixth

Sew one 2 1/2"x8 1/2" strip to the other sides of the block to create a block like the one in the image above.

(Repeat this until you have three of these.)

Seventh

Sew one of the 2 1/2"x8 1/2" black pieces of material to the sides of the block to create a block like the one above.

(Repeat this until you have three of these.)

Eighth

Finish the block by adding one 2 1/2"x12 1/2" to look exactly like the block above.

(Repeat this until you have three of these.)

Ninth

From the Authentic In Bloom Stone material cut out 3, 3" circles.

(I do not use fusible. I starch the material to be used in the applique then cut out the shapes, and pin them to the piece to be appliqued onto. Starch washes out very nicely and quilts very nicely also. I also like to use cups from my kitchen for templates.)

Tenth.

From the Authentic In the News Black material cut out 3, 2" circles.

Using a blanket stitch I applique the two circles together.

Eleventh

From the Authentic Simple Spot Sprout material

cut out and applique onto three of the 12 1/2"x12 1/2" squares 15 petals to create a flower as shown above.

 Twelfth

Lay out your quilt blocks in the pattern shown above.

Thirteenth

 From the Authentic Spot on Natural material cut 12, 12 1/2"x2 1/2" strips.

 Sew the rows together using the sashing you just cut, as shown in the images below.

 

Fourteenth

Now from the Authentic Simple Spot Natural material cut 4, 2 1/2"x2 1/2" squares for the corner stones.

 Using the cornerstones sew the rows together as shown in the image above.

Now, quilt, bind and enjoy.
